Check out my book notes at Largehearted Boy for the novel. Authors create the soundtrack for their books.  Given that the novel actually has a soundtrack, I included what’s inspired my songwriting as well as the novel – but they’re pretty much the same thing anyway.

He writes,

Reminiscent of Philip K. Dick and Haruki Murakami, a book that boldly explores the future and defies genre.

Here’s the annotated notes, via Youtube, good listening:

Jim O’Rourke – “Prelude to 110 or 220/Women of the World” – from “Eureka”

Jim O’Rourke – “Get a Room” – from “Insignificance” (don’t know who these guys are in the video)

David Bowie – “Five Years” – from “Ziggy Stardust” – Live 1972

Talking Heads – “The Great Curve” – from “Remain in Light” – Live in Rome 1980 (check out the whole show, mind bending)

The Who – “Amazing Journey” – from “Tommy” – Live 1969

Beach Boys – “Heroes and Villains – “Smile” etc. – Live in 2009

Adrian Belew – “Man in the Moon” – Doesn’t exist on Youtube except cover songs. Here’s King Crimson – “Frame by Frame” – from “Discipline” – Great performance on the Old Grey Whistle Test

The Kinks – “Australia” – from “Arthur: Or The Decline And Fall Of The British Empire”

Do Make Say Think – “Reitschule” – from “& Yet & Yet” – live @ the Bowery Ballroom 2007

Pinback – “Tripoli” – 1st Record

Bonus! XTC – “Yacht Dance” – from “English Settlement” – Live in 1982 before Andy Partridge freaked out with stage fright (my brother was at that L.A. show) and couldn’t play live anymore:
